The release door in the front is hinged and includes a vent hole that also serves as a finger hole which may be used to drop the door down , if needed. The heavy duty carrying handle folds down. Top dowels are 3/8 in. larger than most other wood baskets. To place pigeons to the basket, the door on the top opens easily due to the steel hinge and folds across the center of the basket, unlike all other baskets that swing up length ways. The door is locked in place when closed, using an oversized plastic turn button. The center support of the basket is 1 3/4 in. wide for added strength, as all the weight with the pigeons in the basket, takes the brunt of this weight and it needs the extra width. The wood basket is fine as it is, but we suggest you paint it to protect the wood and added beauty. Varnishing the basket makes it a real gem.
