Feather Lice

SYMPTOMS

Small black lice can be seen on the feathers near the shaft of the feathers and you may see constant preening. Feather lice do not cause disease and are usually a result of poor loft condition. They are transmitted from bird to bird and from parent to babies. You usually see them with the naked eye but you may need to look with a microscope. Regular dipping with Foy’s #707 or #709, Permectrin will rid the birds from the feather lice. You must follow the directions and do not dip or spray your birds on a very hot day.
