These olde world heavy clay bowls have been in use for centuries. The clay holds body weight and keeps the eggs and young warm. They are 9.5" diameter and 2 1/4" deep. Vent holes in the bottom. Works well with the Belgium nest pad. There are times the clay bowls arrive broken. If this happens you will receive a credit. We do not re-ship damaged bowls.

    Sturdy nest bowls

I like these bowls because the size is generous for the birds, they are easy to clean and they are heavy enough that the birds don’t push them around or knock them over. I have ordered several times and have been very pleased with the packaging that kept all safe and sound in shipping.

    Sturdy bowls

Despite the risk of breakage, I prefer these to lighter or disposable nests. They last forever, with due care, are easy to clean and affordable. I appreciate the traditional look in my loft, too.

WAY better than my plastic nest bowl

Posted by Evelyn Fewster on Apr 16th 2021

Recently bought a 3-pack of these for my birds. Upon receiving them, immediately regretted not buying another 3-pack (and have since done so). The plastic nest bowl I had had quite a steep slope in the bowl and the birds definitely found it a little slippery unless there was a good quantity of nesting material in there. I had some concerns about a peep developing splay leg in that nest bowl due to its shape and slipperyness, so now that I'm committing to breeding I went ahead and replaced it with one of these and made the rest available for use. They are much wider in terms of useable space (enough that my birds can both fit onto the nest at the same time if they really want to) and do not slope so steeply and so suddenly. Instead of a somewhat conical shape down into the nest it is more of a quick dip and then a flat bottom for the birds to walk on - much much less slipping. I think it is also good for helping keep their claws from getting too long and making their toes twist. Love these things. Just be careful you don't drop them or treat it too roughly - I think too hard of a bonk on a hard surface could chip it, if not crack it or worse. I'm willing to deal with the slight fragility as I'm not going to be bothering the bowls much except to do a general clean of poop when they need it - I am careful with them and that's good enough for me. Definitely definitely prefer this over the old nest I had.
